Lower Manhattan Cemetery Stroll

This tour unearths the burial history and practices of seven distinct cultures through time within New York City: Protestants, especially early Dutch and British colonists; the Lenape; Catholics; Muslims; Jews; African-Americans; and Chinese-Americans. We visit four cemeteries, a "funeral row," and one of the greatest American archaeological burial finds of modern times. Together, we'll decode some colonial grave art, learn about the many Potter's Fields of New York that we now play in, and much more.
